Matt Waruszynski

Oil painter specialising in portraiture
Artist Collective at Westbury

I am an oil painter specialising in figurative work and portraits.

I’m really interested in exploring how the body and face tell the story of our lives. Our body keeps the score of all of our traumas, joys, struggles and triumphs and I seek to use painting and drawing as a way to understand and reflect this.

I’m also fascinated by the materiality of paint which I like to apply thickly in an impasto style, and, as such, I see my method as sculpting with paint. With a background in animation, I am drawn to fast, energetic marks to give a sense of life and movement in my work.

I also like to teach and get others involved in art. In 2015 I set up Life Drawing MK and I also teach regularly at Westbury Arts Centre and am involved with Drink and Draw Northampton.

Westbury Arts Centre has parking and disabled parking – though there is a gravel driveway and no lift/wheelchair access to the first floor of the main house. The Barn is accessible for wheelchair users.
