As a graduate of textile design, and later, a holder of a degree in biodiversity and conservation, it was inevitable that both worlds would one day combine. With tapestry weaving I have found a perfect way to express my love of both. The slow, meditative growth of a tapestry allows me to appreciate the tactile nature and behaviour of yarn, and the method of construction allows me to infuse each tapestry with beauty and richness found in the natural world. Each piece is woven by hand, using colour-mixed bundles of wool gradually building from the bottom up and covering a vertical framework of cotton threads (warp). A tapestry can take many months to complete and the methodical creation of a piece is a sensory and mindful experience.
