Flowers are to me the perfect illustration of untrammelled beauty, their
innocent gift of transparency, colourful joy and intricate detail all wrapped
into a glorious package – and I paint them not to illustrate botanical
perfection (as many artists do so well) but to attempt an impressionistic
image of the essence of each of these chosen flower paintings that gives
them form, colour and delicacy. The difficult bit, though, is their depiction
in their painting onto fine art papers with the transparency of watercolours.
