Since 2001 I have been producing works using colour, instinctive mark making and abstracted details as an emotional response to my immediate natural environment. Much of this work is inspired by the colours, textures and essence of the views found in and around the local surrounding rural and urban areas. Making small thumbnail sketches as a starting point I work these up to a larger scale in charcoal on board, canvas and paper applying layers of paint, oil, pastels and graphite to build texture, often scratching some areas back, revealing a history beneath. Using this direct personal mark-making process I explore a composition in an intuitive painterly way, making decisions as the painting develops to a resolution. I have shown at the Affordable Art Fairs in London, New York and Hamburg and have had solo shows and other group shows around the country.
