My watercolour 'Shadow Patterns' has been chosen for the 2024 Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours Exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London SW1, from 27 March to 13 April. I love the way that shadows fall through a rattan blind, transforming quite an ordinary vase into something special.
Over the middle weekend of Bucks Art Weeks, 15-16 June 2024, my studio will be a central location in a Stewkley-wide Open Gardens weekend event, when 17 village gardens will be open for our church fabric fundraising. Enjoy a cream tea at the church before visiting my exhibition!
I have a textile design degree from Hornsey College of Art and my career with John Lewis plc embraced textile and interior design. Since painting full-time, I have taken part in Bucks Open Studios and Art Weeks since 1998, and my watercolours have been chosen for exhibition by the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, the Society of Women Artists, and the Royal Society of Marine Artists. My work has featured in galleries both locally and further afield, and is in private collections world-wide.
My textile design career informs my work. Overseas travel has provided me with the vibrant light and colours which inspire me. I always look for pattern and design in quite ordinary subjects. Watercolour is a fluid and unpredictable medium. Controlling it (or not!) makes it exciting to use and allows me to capture all these elements in my work.
