Initially I studied Jewellery design and making but decided that teaching was a good option, general art then ceramics then back to Art for years 7 to 13.
I have been lucky enough to allow my butterfly nature to let go so it is great to be able to try new skills and work in many different areas, 2D and 3D, ceramic, wood, metal, glass etc. I do always come back to drawing either in pencil or pen and ink, this then leads to painting. I can do subtle but mostly I enjoy bold and colour, I love filling sketchpads that become journals of discovery , these then sometimes evolve as art work.
I am lucky enough to have a studio both here and in Normandy, where the landscape is always a source of ideas and experimentation, along with a glass of wine! I have quoted this before but it still stands, “Painting isn’t an aesthetic operation it’s a form of magic designed as a mediator between this strange hostile world and us” Picasso.
