Ceramics for home & garden
Rignalls Lodge
Inspired by natural forms, shapes and textures, the landscape we live in both urban and countryside influence my work. The visual and tactile nature of my work is essential to me speaking of pebbles on a beach, rocks on a river bed, ancient stones, old places.
Stoneware hand built ceramics. Sculptural garden pieces and smaller sculptural pieces for indoors. Hand built using, slabs, coiling and my own home made moulds.
My pieces are slowly built over a number of weeks. I enjoy colouring my own clay or mixing clays together to change the basic colour of the clay. I use layers of different slips to create texture and colour variety to many of my pieces as well as various home made mark making tools to create different textures.
After studying art and ceramics at O level in the late 70’s I moved way from ceramics until early 2000. My more recent training has been mainly through adult Ed in SE London and my own exploration and research.
As a recent Judges Choice Winner at London Potters Annual Exhibition at Morley Gallery, Waterloo, London, I am looking forward to 2025. New ideas and new ventures.
I am aiming to start small group “introduction to clay and hand building” in the very near future. Please contact me if you are interested in this, or if you want to discuss commission ideas.
With the need to use less electricity I am currently exploring how much texturing and layers I can do before any firing and how I can re-design certain glazes to lower their firing temperature. This is ongoing experimentation.
My studio and garden are open to visitors outside Bucks Art Weeks by appointment. Please contact me on the brochure contact number if you wish to visit at a different time. I always have work for sale in the garden and studio.
I look forward to welcoming you to my studio and garden.
