After years of receiving requests for a workshop that covers the basics of sewing and getting to know your sewing machine, last year we teamed up with the wonderful Sam Slator from The Sewing Loft in Chesham, and this relaxed yet informative short course was born. Since it’s inaugural outing last January it’s sold out every time we’ve run it, and the feedback has been so heartwarming so if you’ve finally dusted off the old Singer in the loft and are wondering what next let us inspire you to get creative!
In this 2-Week Basic Sewing Course Sam will be demonstrating and teaching a number of simple sewing techniques that will be super useful for all of your future projects.
The course will cover (but not necessarily in this order!):
threading your sewing machine
winding bobbins
sewing machine feet and their uses
using different stitches on machine
button holes
seams
basic equipment and tools
Sam will also be available to answer all of your burning questions, like “What is the purpose of all these different feet?” or “how can I sew in a straight line?”!!
You will leave feeling full of confidence about what your machine can do and how to get the very best out of it, as well as a renewed grasp of the basics of sewing that you can go on to apply to all those exciting projects just waiting to be created!
What do you need to bring?
Ideally please bring your own sewing machine (if this is a problem please contact us and we can supply one subject to how many people need one – first come first served!)
a basic sewing kit containing thread, scissors and pins
We will supply all other materials and will be in touch once you have booked your class to discuss your machine and to make sure you have everything you need.
Sam also runs regular one-day workshops with us which are a great place to put all of your newfound skills into practise and undertake a basic dressmaking project.
