Portrait commissions & fine art in oils
I make bespoke oil paintings of your loved ones and memories: portraits, pets, landscapes and more. Please pop by to see me at work or talk about a picture you might like on your walls.
You can also see my non-commissioned work and browse my portfolio of gifts, prints and greetings cards.
I paint medium and large pieces in oils and recently I’ve had exhibitions at Queens Park Arts Centre and Aylesbury Library, as well as being shown in The Workhouse gallery, Dunstable and Pops and Chops gallery, Leighton Buzzard. I’ve also been shown at Bedford Flea, Mentmore Arts Festival, Longwick Art Show, Leighton Buzzard Art Society and Stowe Landscape Gardens.
This year I’m looking forward to an exhibition at Leighton Buzzard Theatre Gallery and to Wendover Arts Festival. I’d love to meet you during Bucks Art Weeks!
Find me at 301 Heath Road, Leighton Buzzard… there’s parking for a couple of cars just outside and more space on the road and around the corner. Refreshments available, and there will be something for children to do too. Everyone is welcome, please note there are some steps/stairs and narrow spaces though.
Biography:
I love making bespoke paintings of people, pets and places. When you discuss a painting project with me, I’ll ask you about the themes and mood you’d like it to include, and about the person, animal or landscape it’s depicting. I work mostly in oils on canvas, although ink and charcoal sketches are a big feature in my studio practice too. My paintings feature strong colours and brushstrokes to match the strong characters portrayed.
In my fine art practice, I use paint to explore themes of identity, internal narrative and reflection. My favourite subjects are portraits and animals, because with these I can capture a moment of communication between sitter and viewer. And my landscapes and still lifes include signs of human influence – shoes, buildings, boats, benches – through which we can enter the scene and express ourselves.
I love the portraits of Cezanne, Munch and Van Gogh and the way that oil paint’s vibrant colours and texture can express a mood and capture a moment.
My paintings are intended to make the viewer take a moment to consider the subject’s personal identity and what they may be feeling or thinking – what their internal narrative is at that moment, building a habit of empathy.
I’m delighted to be a member of the organising committee for Bucks Art Weeks and Visual Images Group and look forward to welcoming you to visit!
