I have always loved art, especially painting and sculpture, but life took me down other roads in terms of my career and I have spent more than 25 years as a doctor in the NHS. In the last ten years I discovered a love of oil painting and with it, the sheer joy of seeing how the light moves across the local hills and fields, and trying to capture some of that magic on canvas.
In this exhibition I have included views of the Chilterns as well as some favourite landscapes and seascapes from travel further afield: Aberdyfi, Dubrovnik, Lisbon, Le Touquet…
I work mainly in a traditional oil technique, building layers of colour and light and while I use photographs as a reference, my focus when painting is on distilling the mood or spirit of a place.
