Biography
Sabine Dahn
I have been a ceramic designer maker and teacher since 1993 and have worked freelance as well as in educational settings, both in the UK and abroad. I combine my passion for making functional objects in clay and teaching others the skills and the confidence to make things too.
Teaching
I love sharing the manifold possibilities inherent in clay with children, young people and adult learners. My aim is to generate a sense of curiosity, experimentation and joy and to support each individual in finding their own creative expression in clay. I run a variety of one-off sessions and longer courses from my Redfield Pottery studio in Winslow. Do join my mailing list to find out about what is on offer each term:

My Own Work
The starting point for some of my work are oil lamps and the ritual use of fire and light. Light is symbolically used as a guide on the path of life as well as representing the omnipresence of the divine. Form and content of this work are inspired by the sea as well as different sources within the field of mythology.
I also really enjoy making straightforward, everyday functional ware from earthenware clay. I throw simple shapes and use the momentum of the wheel to create lively slip swirls.
At the moment I focus on bowls and jugs as they both hold food and drink to share with others, thus representing generosity and community.
Combining Pottery and Yoga
The other passion I have followed for the last 30 years is practising and teaching yoga.
Whilst yoga is a journey inward, the creative expression in clay is what arises from this inward journey. They mutually support each other and share many characteristics. My aim in both activities is to inspire a love of discovery and exploration that will lead to enjoyment, confidence and a peaceful sense of self. If you want to experience both together you are welcome to participate in a residential weekend retreat, weekend 5-7 June 2026. Enquiries to:
