Emmanuel Leon

YOUTH MEMBER
Emmanuel Leon: Beyond Limit Experiences was made in Oxford in May 2025, reflecting through the embodied action of making on memories from Birmingham 2024. The piece is born amidst vodka shots, Miley Cyrus's 'Plastic Hearts', Tove Lo's 'Queen of the Clouds' and 'Dirt Femme', and oil pastel experimentations while Emmanuel's partner wrote an essay. Oil pastel on A3 mixed media paper, set with Winsor & Newton professional fixative. The work evokes the violent tenderness of self-dissolution and the first conditions of becoming.Emmanuel Leon: The Guardian was made in High Wycombe June 2026 using acrylics and oil pastel on A2 PaperEmmanuel Leon: The Transfiguration of the Lamb was made in Oxford in June 2025, using oil pastel on A3 mixed media paper, set with Winsor & Newton professional fixative. It marks a moment of threshold in Emmanuel León's practice. It is an inquiry into dissolution, ritual, and what remains when identity is stripped to its essentials.Emmanuel Leon: The Ever Return to Life was made in Pachacamac in February 2026 amidst Peruvian hot summer, next to a childhood swimming pool and family members. Oil pastel on an A5 mixed media paper Sketchbook were used while the rhythms of ‘Hunger’ by Florence and the Machine loosen the shape of the body of the maker. Biography

Emmanuel León is a Peruvian anthropologist, multidisciplinary artist, and writer based in High Wycombe. He holds an MSc in Visual, Material and Museum Anthropology from the University of Oxford and a BA in Social Anthropology with Human Rights from the University of Essex. His practice sits at the intersection of anthropology, decolonial methodology, and arts-based research.

Working under the name The Little Hut Studio, León creates oil pastel works that draw on alchemical and mythic frameworks, using motifs of composting, decay, and transformation to explore questions of becoming, liminality, and the more-than-human world. His recent series include The Guardian, To Compost the Rot, and The Marriage of Rot.

Alongside his studio practice, León works across the museum and heritage sector, currently serving as Web Officer for the Museum Ethnographers Group and Head of Digital Communications for Museum Detox.
