Lindsay Neale Waring – Sculptor

Lindsay Neale Waring - Sculptor at work

Lindsay Neale Waring - Sculptor: Tigris Panthera 2013 Made from upcycled chicken wire. No frame was used for this sculpture, just an alternative way of working the wire that make the body strong whilst only using 3-5 layers of chicken wire. The head has a lot of detail to draw more attention and the rest of the body is more translucent to illustrate the fading of the number of Tigers in the wild. The form depicts the Tiger reacting to the viewer intruding in his space. Man is ever intruding on wildlife’s enviLindsay Neale Waring - Sculptor: Crocodile was a commission by a previous customer. He allowed me to have huge artistic freedom with this which really excited me. With the Tiger i started the work with the head but when i started the Croc project i already knew the challenges on a head with an open mouth so i started with the feet this time. For me the feet were integral to showing the tension in this form. He is made from chicken wire again and again i really only needed a pair of pliers and a hook. I prefer to keep the process as natural as possible in order to really connect to the process and material. He now resides in Oxford with a cockerel i made for this customer previously.Lindsay Neale Waring - Sculptor: Now for something completely different. Stormalong Whippet is one of a series of Whippets i am currently working on. I was inspired by the passing of my mother last year. Carol Neale had been breeding, showing and judging Whippets for over 60 years and growing up with them has given me a real insight to their character. The medium of this sculpture is mixed. With a wire inner and papiere mache finish i have the freedom to go where that character takes me. My intention is to mount these on a book, all about dogs. This one may not be available to purchase during Bucks Art Weeks but if you visit you will find out.Lindsay Neale Waring - Sculptor: “Red Kite In Flight” is my second Red Kite. I am currently working on the third which will be a public sculpture to highlight the fight of the demolition of my home village for the third airport which was proposed in 1969-1971. If that proposal had gone ahead three villages would have been raised to the ground and Red Kites would never have graced our sky in that area. This sculpture now resides in Devon in the private home of an Art Collector.Lindsay Neale Waring - Sculptor: “Isolation” came about when i was creating a couple in love. I created a maquette first and the romantic couple worked perfectly. However whe you scale things up they don’t always follow on from the maquette. I just couldn’t make them relate to each other the way they did when small. So the female was removed thus came the title idea (not the 2019 pandemic) This piece can be seen in the grounds of Westbury Arts Centre where my studio is, The Barn Studio B1.Lindsay Neale Waring - Sculptor: “Barn Owl” is one of a series of wire owls, each unique from the other. This one here is mounted on an old post. A simlar Barn Owl can be seen in the Sculpture Garden at Westbury Arts Centre MK5 6AA where my studio has been for quite a few years now.Lindsay Neale Waring - Sculptor: When i was asked to participate in an entry to Taton RHS Flower show I felt enormous gratitude to be working with a many time winner in the show. After much discussion with garden designer Clive Scott we decided on 20 Manchester Bees spiralling up in a cacophony of floral musicality. 20 bees to celebrste Tatons twentieth year of the flower show. Manchester bees to comply woth the theme from the RHS for that year and the title? “Rhapsody in Blue” to highlight the ecological theme. Bees are naturally drawn to blue hues first and so Clive’s planting reflected this with an abundance of blue and purple flowers and grasses. What fun we had! We were even featured on the BBC! Clive done a magnificent job and the garden received a Silver Guilt award. I was proud to be a small part in this.Lindsay Neale Waring - Sculptor: “Red Hen” lightly pecks at the ground. I really enjoyed making this chicken out of chicken wire. It gave me a chuckle! I have a couple a small white hens outside my studio to demonstrate an achievable level of sculpture for a one day workshop. I may restart the workshops this year, after a break of caring for my mother.Lindsay Neale Waring - Sculptor:
