Biography
Sonali has been a practicing potter for over 25 years, working in studios across India and the UK. In 2024, she founded Marlow Studio Pottery, a community focused space where pottery enthusiasts can come together to learn, experiment, and create.
Her journey began as a production potter, eventually evolving into the creation of large-scale ceramic works for galleries and public spaces. Her current practice is a thoughtful balance between hand building and wheel-throwing. Her work ranges from sculptural forms layered with texture and colour, to simple, timeless functional pieces.
Sonali is deeply fascinated by the technical side of ceramics. She delights in the chemistry behind developing glazes and clay bodies and continually experiments with different firing methods to explore the full potential of the medium.
At the heart of her work is a reverence for clay itself and the transformative power of earth, fire, and water. She is inspired by the duality of the material ,its strength and fragility and how it can be shaped into pieces that are both expressive and enduring.
Teaching is a natural extension of her practice. Sonali is passionate about sharing the knowledge and insight she’s gathered over the years, especially through her collaborations with other potters from around the world
