I am also the writer-director of CODA (2011), a 10-minute family drama short, and listen, even when your heart is crying (2014), which was Official Selection at Aesthetica 2015 and nominated as Best Documentary at the 2015 CINEDeaf Awards. Both can be viewed on LumoTV YouTube.
Biography
I am a Deaf, neurodivergent, multidisciplinary visual artist and writer who experiments with a range of materials as the mood takes me. My current visual art practice blends fine-line drawing, mixed-media paper collage and watercolour.
My creative approach can often feel very disparate and fragmented. Regardless there is a common thread running throughout of nostalgia, storytelling, family, child’s play, Deaf culture, flora and fauna, and local history. Coming from a large extended family of writers and artists who grew up in the Seventies and Eighties, I have great affection for this mix of memory and escapism, and often draw inspiration from archive photos, classic children’s book illustrations and exploratory walks.
An alumnus of Central Saint Martins (MA Fashion Journalism/Promotion, Pass with Distinction), I have sustained a portfolio career over 30 years in various creative roles incorporating theatre, film, journalism, book publishing, arts project management and arts consultancy/marketing. Past clientele includes Tate, V&A, The Design Museum, Phaidon Press, Modern Art Oxford, The Royal Collection Trust, Deafinitely Theatre, Vogue, The Independent, the BBC and Channel 4.
