Biography
Carol Summerfield is a abstract painter living in Buckinghamshire. She studied at Winchester Art College followed by Brighton University, completing her Foundation course and Fine Art Degree respectively.
She works in both oil paint on canvas and watercolour on paper to explore her reactions to the environment that surrounds her. As a life long walker she has spent many years traversing the countryside, fascinated by the footpaths created over time and how they record our history, generation by generation.
She likes to use different mark making techniques; layering, scratching, sanding, reapplying to convey the many layers of time.
Colour is also an important part of her response to the environment. She works with a small palette, mixing her paint on the canvas, allowing circumstance to influence the final image.
