Biography
I hand build sculpture for placement both outdoors and inside the home and I make slip or glaze decorated wheel thrown bowls and cups. I enjoy mixing lively, gestural mark making with clean lines. I like layering clay slips, oxides and glazes to create depth and also enjoy the process of taking away clay, revealing what is beneath, allowing form to emerge.
I am interested in the elemental in terms of what is essential or fundamental but also pertaining to the great forces of nature. My aim is to engage fully with my materials and respond to them imaginatively and energetically. I hope that the outcome will have integrity and resolution that feels authentic.
I fire to stoneware using an electric kiln and increasingly pieces are smoke, saggar or wood fired.
