53 Marie Jones
Fibre art

Marie Jones is a textile artist celebrating the natural world through fibres and fabrics. Using wool fibres as her foundation, she layers stitch and fabrics, carefully combined through the felting process. The resulting pieces are richly textured and painterly, inviting close inspection of the creative process itself. Nature is at the heart of her work, earliest influences being the wild coastlines and dramatic landscapes of her native Scotland. Her memories are captured in the wool layers expressing a sense of openness, solitude and the raw beauty of that environment. Now, living closer to the Chiltern hills, she draws inspiration from the gentle, pastoral rolling hills and woodlands. Thoughtful use of materials and deep connection to place allow engagement with nature in a tactile, meaningful way. The viewer is offered calm contemplation.
