Pottery throwing for beginners

Venue, Timing, Cost

Queens Park Art Centre, Aylesbury
Sun, 11/22/2020
10am to 4pm

The pottery throwing course runs from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 22nd November. There are currently 2 spaces available on this date.
There is ample parking at the Centre.
Contact me at cbutters@tiscali.co.uk if you are interested.
I will be there by 9.30 to set up.
The aim of this course is to introduce throwing to the beginner.
This means we will be concentrating on learning to throw small cylinders, which are the basis of all thrown pots.
We can also look at pulling handles to attach to the cylinders, to make mugs.
All the clay and tools needed will be provided and we do have aprons, but you may want to bring your own apron or dress in clothes that you don’t mind
getting clay on.
If you have long hair then it is a good idea to bring something to put your hair back with as there is a lot of leaning forward over the wheel. You may also need to trim your fingernails.

The course fee includes the bisque firing of one pot.
If you make other pots that you want to fire then there is a small cost to pay that depends on its weight, but it is not very much.
Your pot/s will be bisque fired later for you to glaze at a later date.
Glazing can be done by coming in to one of the evening or day time pottery sessions. – See Queens Park Art Centre website for the details -
It is important that you speak to a tutor about the glazing so as not to damage your pots or the kiln.

There are facilities at the Art Centre for tea / coffee / sweets / crisps, but I recommend that you bring your own packed lunch.
The remaining fee can be paid by cash on the day or if you prefer by BACS.
