Venue, Timing, Cost
Have you ever wondered what goldwork was about? Do you know your pearl purl from your plate? Your spangles from your twists? Fancy learning something new and exciting in a beautiful rural location with lovely home cooked food prepared by my in house chef, and you get to meet fellow enthusiasts?
This is a technique that has traditionally been used in church work, the military and of course with royalty. It has been adapted for many modern and traditional applications. Secure booking can be made through my website https://www.thesmartstitcher.co.uk/ourshop/cat_1707741-Courses.html
This course is aimed at beginners. It introduces you to the main aspects of goldwork including:
The types of goldwork thread that is available.
The types of padding, how to apply them and how to sew them.
How to prepare your fabric.
How to transfer your design.
How to sew your goldwork threads.
How to finish your design after your stitching is completed.
You will receive a set of course notes to accompany the day.
There will be a choice of designs and kits available on the day. The materials are included in the course fee.
By the end of the day you will leave with confidence to finish your design and knowing how you can apply your new knowledge to your own designs in the future.
The schedule for the day looks a bit like this:
9.15am Arrival, introductions and refreshments
9.30am Class starts - First sewing session
11am Coffee break tea and homemade freshly roasted coffee homemade truffles with chocolates (we have to keep your energy levels up).
11.15am Second sewing session

1.30pm Third sewing session

You will need to have a few breaks during the day and to stand up and move about. The timing and length of the breaks can be tweaked so we can carry on stitching.
Please note suggested menu may change slightly depending on allergies and dietary preferences. Please let Elizabeth know when she contacts you after purchase.
Do you need to bring anything?
Just bring yourself.
We will be working on a 10 inch round needlework frame. Elizabeth will have everything available for the class. You may wish to use your own frame, please do so.
If you have basic sewing kit - thimbles and scissors then it would be useful to bring that as well. I would advise keeping your sewing scissors for snipping thread and having an older pair of scissors for cutting the goldwork threads. The thimble(s) should to sit securely on the finger(s) you use to push the needle through the fabric, to protect your finger(s).
Please make sure you have read the terms and conditions prior to booking your course.
Classes will be following COVID guidance and track and trace.
