The course will give you essential technical skills and an understanding of the materials used in fusing, plus some knowledge of kiln operation and firing schedules.

If you've already done some fusing, you'll find a wealth of more advanced techniques on offer too!

This course introduces you to the key glass fusing concepts, allow you scope to design your own projects, and results in a number of finished pieces you'll be proud of!
With a maximum of 5 students and two tutors you can be sure of plenty of attention and guidance throughout the class.
6 evenings - Glass Fusing Intensive evening course for up to 5 people

The course structure dedicates the first three evenings to each of several important inital types of glass fusing.
The following 3 sessions can be used to develop your own projects, building on the methods and materials learned at the start. This is a fully tutored course, with course notes and kiln schedules provided.

Session 1 - Make some simple fused glass pieces using frits, inclusions and enamels; learn the basics of firing and compatibility.

Session 2 - Make one or more tack-fused art pieces; learn how to cut glass and use this skill to make a fused piece with cut glass shapes as well as the materials used in week 1.
We'll give you some glass cutting exercises to complete once we've taught you the basics and then you'll cut the glass for your project. Learn more about firing schedules.

Session 3 - You'll use moulds to learn about slumping or draping, learning about 3d fused forms and more about how glass behaves when fired at different temperatures.

During the first 3 sessions we'll help you decide what you'd like to make on the next 3 sessions.

Sessions 4, 5, 6 - Over these 3 weeks you'll have a choice of what to create, using the methods learnt over the proceeding 3 weeks. We'll help you decide, and plan your project(s), and identify the materials you'll need.
There will be a small additional charge for materials for your projects. This should be no more than £30 - £40, depending on the size and complexity of your projects.

Some ideas of projects you could consider for weeks 4-6:

Fused Flowers - learn how to create petal designs which can be fused in to a flower shape, and about slumping and moulds
Bendy Glass - learn about slumping and moulds
Pictures - let your arty side come out, and include a wide range of potential materials and techniques
A Pebble or textured bowl - learn about using broken and crushed glass to fuse in to a mould
Pebble Art - learn about inclusions, making pebbles, and advanced tack fusing

A Clock - learn how to incorporate cut coloured sections and tack-fused components in to a functional clock; learn how to drill holes in glass
Dammed tack fused shapes - learn how to use dam moulds with crushed glass to control your fused shapes
