I am a surface & pattern designer with a love of textiles & colour. Over the last 20 years I have practiced using various mediums, including silk painting, procion dyeing, screen & block printing, stitching & drawing, as ways to decorate & embellish both fabric & paper.
During this time, I discovered the dye garden on a visit to Chenies Manor, and then a new way to dye using plants to colour fabric. I bought a couple of plants to experiment with; but it wasn’t until years later that I was drawn back to nature, creating my own dye garden and, where possible, using plants grown from seed, or gathered locally, to capture the marks & colour of plant foliage and to create unique, often unpredictable, botanical printed & naturally dyed pieces of fabric.
I use mainly recycled cotton, silk and wool, which go through many processes - mordanting, rinsing, dyeing & washing - giving the fabrics time to breathe and to capture the true beauty of their living colour.
