In 2015, I decided to ‘become an artist’. It was a pledge to myself to work everyday on learning and practising painting technique. The journey to ‘be’ an artist is one that never ends of course and it brings equal amounts of satisfaction and frustration. I can say without equivocation that I wish I’d started earlier in life as it is an ambition I will never fulfil but which is fulfilling in it’s pursuit. This exhibition shows where I am currently at on my journey. Painting en plein air is a commitment that requires missionary zeal at times. Light, weather and conditions change frequently in this country. You must believe it’s worth doing for its own sake, envisage your painting, stand your ground and see it through.
No matter where you plant your easel though, you are rewarded by a great sense of satisfaction whatever the result on paper.
In 2020, I spent some time in the West Highlands I exhibit, take commissions and teach courses in watercolour.
