Contemporary Batik and Textiles

I am from Scotland where I obtained a BA Hons degree in Printed Textiles and Batik from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee.
My designs are influenced by the vibrant colours, amazing patterns and textures I see all around me, whether in nature or in more diverse places such as Spanish and Moroccan tiles.
I use the traditional technique of batik which involves wax resist and overdyeing, but in a modern way to produce fresh, vibrant designs. I love the contrast between the fine detail obtained by the canting and the more abstract brushstrokes and crackle effects achieved with the wax. The wonderful part is watching the design evolve and emerge as the final result is revealed when the wax is removed. Each piece is therefore truly unique.
My handcrafted batik designs on silk are available as pictures in box frames, silk scarves, and also as digitally printed cushions and cards.
