Biography:
Hi, I am Sheetal, I was born in India, presently based in Milton Keynes, UK.
I am a post-graduate in Economics and hold a Teaching Degree from the University of Leicester. For the love of Art and Design, I did a diploma in Fashion Design which immediately led to teaching Fashion Illustration and CAD at well-known Fashion Institutes in New Delhi for about six years until I moved to the UK.
Art has been my childhood obsession, while spending time at art school most summer holiday, I learned various fine art techniques like drawing, painting, water, oil, and acrylics. I participated in and won several art competitions during my growing years. My love for embroidery developed when I studied the embroidery module in the Fashion Design course.
The intricate embroidery patterns in my artwork are inspired by ancient art forms seen in the rich textiles and architecture of India.
The vibrant and colourful patterns keep me focussed and connected to my roots.
I use Indian traditional hand embroidery techniques like Mirror, Kantha, Shadow, Kashidakari, Phulkari and a blend of other hand embroidery techniques.
I conducted art and embroidery workshops in Milton Keynes including with Artworks MK and MK Arts for Health in 2011- 2012. My hand-embroidered pieces were also exhibited at MK Hospital in 2011-2012.
I am taking my creative talent further under the name of ‘Stitches and Strokes’, through which I will introduce framed hand embroidered wall art, handmade cards and jewellery bags embellished with exquisite hand embroideries, this summer.
