Biography:
Melissa’s sculptural works explore a variety of differing processes, from the solidity yet lightness of using industrial wire, to delicate single strand ‘wire drawings’. Her inspiration comes from nature. Making animals and quirky birds to celebrate the amazing creatures we share our world with. Melissa sometimes uses bright, unrealistic colours in her work, to bring a smile and to challenge convention. She collects sea-glass, and discarded or broken items, and has been incorporating these into some of her pieces.
A love of collage, printing and free mark-making has lead her to develop a series of wall pieces and vessels, particularly influenced by visits to the the ocean and seaside environments.
Melissa is inpired by individual outcomes of using different techniques to allow the spirit of the piece to find its own voice.
