Biography:

Kate Whiting is a successful knitwear designer and textile artist working with natural fibres and materials to create knitted and felted creations.
In particular, she loves to work with merino, silk and yak. Trying to incorporate recycled yarns and fibres where she can.
Her creations are pieces of art to be worn or draped for enjoyment.
The custom designed inspired Waldorf dolls are made from complete natural materials.
Kate was taught to knit at the age of 8 by her Grandmother, who would be very proud to see what those first few stitches have evolved into.
The inner need for natural stimulus for her children began the doll making, although what she creates now is more for the collector than a child’s toy.
Kate takes her inspiration very much from nature, folklore, novels and her fascination of Scottish clothing history in the 17th and 18th century, as well as the colours of Scotland’s nature and landscape.
She has been working with independent yarn dyers in America, Canada, Australia and Scotland over the last year to create very successful collections of work inspired in particular by the Outlander story and Game Of Thrones, these have sold worldwide.
The issue of climate change and our planet is also very much at the forefront of Kates subjects for inspiration. A piece for EcoCreate exhibition in Derby whose concept was Myths And Legends won a silver award for using a Phoenix shawl to depict the message of global warming.
She is currently planning a mythical and Pagan celebration collection which will be available as one-off unique pieces, or as a pattern from later this year.
Kate takes her inspiration from whichever source she is leaning towards and works from home, in middle of the Buckinghamshire countryside, where walking each day around the farm has resulted in the Natural photography that has been recently used to created greeting cards, and for other plans yet to be announced.
The opportunity to be taught to knit and design by Kate in a small group is an avenue she is currently exploring.
