Exhibition and News
My work is exhibited at various locations across Buckinghamshire, both privately with local businesses and with local galleries physically and online.
I was the Buckingham Art For All (Bafa) exhibition winner in November 2024 with my painting “Firefighter Thomas” depicting the exhibition theme of “Fire”.
I regularly participate in exhibitions with Bucks art societies, notably Bafa and MKSA.
Biography
I paint mainly in oils using watercolours to sketch ideas and explore subjects before committing to oil on canvas. I also use acrylic and soft pastel from time to time. Favourite subjects are seascapes and landscapes but I also venture into other areas, e.g. still life. Whilst most paintings are on canvas I am equally happy to explore other surfaces including maps and similar grounds.
My mountain paintings are based mainly on personal travel and exploration with my family of the French Alps and Scandinavia. My aim is to express the powerful dominance of mountains on the landscape by incorporating textures in the paint through use of mediums mixed with traditional oil paint creating shadow and light definition through paint relief, enhancing the portrayal of mountain ruggedness and rock formations.
I also favour moving water as a subject and my lake and seascapes seek to capture the dynamic movement of waves and depth of water despite the transient nature of the subject, light and reflection. Many of these works are based on reference photos gathered in the French alps, Switzerland Orkney and the Algarve.
I teach oil painting to local art societies and to individual and small groups on request. I love nothing more than to share my techniques and see the joy of discovery on the students’ faces.
