Amrita Nanda: The Fifth Element - part 2 Acrylic on Canvas, 18”x24”,£450 My experience of what I see and feel looking through the doorway each time I visit this temple of Goddess Ambika, in the heart of a dense forest by a waterfall in India, called Deokund. Heightening our five senses with this sensory experience that can only be felt, represents energy, spirit, power, time and space, this is the fifth element!

Amrita Nanda: Flying Staircases, Acrylic on Canvas, This imbibes the mystery of Pharaohs and pyramids. With the staircases merging and taking the viewer into and around the woman whose tresses / hair are staircases that lead the viewer into the painting, with an urge to know more. I have used optical illusion here, which tricks the eye to perceive it differently from how it would actually look.

Amrita Nanda: Surreality Acrylic on Canvas, 61 x 91cm (£870) This is a visit to Deokund, a captivating forest in India, where I experienced fluttering of bright blue butterflies in pairs that filled the forest, when one of them sat on my palms, and it felt as though life smiled and liberated me with those blue beings.

Amrita Nanda: Over a Turkish coffee Fascination with lights & lamps and a visit to a Turkish café in London, I caught myself looking ‘Over a Turkish Coffee’. The place just charmed me with its colourful lamps, and while looking over it I saw the reflection of the lamps and lights above me, on my cuppa. I had to paint it!

Amrita Nanda: In Love with the Damsels Acrylic & Glow in the dark paints on canvas board, Framed 41cm x 51cm, £400 This was my first experience meeting the beautiful blue Damselflies, in summertime in the UK over a tiny water patch.

Amrita Nanda: Skyfish Acrylic on canvas 31cm x 41cm £150 Silhouettes from my travels to sharm-el-sheikh, and its beautiful sea creatures of the Red Sea, a surreal representation.

Amrita Nanda: Raati Acrylic on canvas, 41 x 50 cm (£250) Inspired by a folk dance from India - Chau , A Mask dance - represents the love between the Moon & the Night Sky.

Amrita Nanda: Alchemy Oil on Canvas, 100 x 100 cm (£1545) Alchemy is in 2 parts - refers to change, transition & transformation of our state of mind from one to the other. Water, Fish, sun, moon, dawn, dusk, butterfly, moth, cat - relate to spiritual evolution sailing us towards new beginnings.This is Alchemy!

Amrita Nanda: On the Realms of an Artist’s Vision The artist's mind coming alive with an idea - colour Red, breaks the monotony & pours itself on the canvas, accumulates on a 3D candle lighting the spark of thought and making the artist’s vision alive. That instance the pencil and flame meet to create the visionary eye, awakening and brought to life with the red butterfly flying out of the canvas - signifies a new life, passion, creativity and freedom.

Biography

Welcome to a surreal escape into my world! Hi, I am Amrita, A Surrealist Artist based in Milton Keynes, UK. My artistic journey began since childhood, in Odisha, India. With schooling & college colours for Art at Mayo College Girls’ School, Ajmer, Rajasthan, India. A Bachelor’s degree & two gold medals in Visual Arts from Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University, Baroda, Gujarat, India, I found myself in the retail sector as a Visual merchandiser, after which I followed my surreal energy to being an artist.

I express myself through my paintings, with different mediums, materials & a sense of movement in them – the real as surreal ! My artworks are bold, colourful & concept driven by the invisible, representing the invisible to be visible & felt. Inspired by Nature and everything around us in UK and India – dreams, experiences, travels, feelings & emotions. An inaudible experience of a conversation between my artwork and the viewer, like they speak to me when I create them!

I am honoured to have showcased & achieved recognition for many of my works, through exhibitions in London, Northampton, Stafford & Milton Keynes and other competitions.
I conduct ‘Arty with Ams’ art classes for children & Adults, Volunteer & get invited to Brooklands Farm Primary School as an Artist, & work on commissions as well.
An active member of South Asian Artists’ Community (SAAC) in Milton Keynes.
