Laura Boswell is a printmaker working lino and woodblock. She is a member of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers. Laura has attended three residencies in Japan, studying woodblock printmaking with master craftsmen, and her book ‘Making Japanese Woodblock Prints’ was published in 2019. Her second book ‘Linocut and Reduction Printing, Design and Techniques’ is due in the late spring of 2022
Laura’s Japanese studies have a profound effect on her printmaking. She works in many layers of transparent colour with negative space, sometimes left unprinted. She often uses a brush or dip pen to draw onto the wood or lino, cutting blocks to give the illusion of drawn or painted line. Her works focus on a sense of space and scale and are an evocation of place rather than specific geographic studies. Laura’s prints feature in national collections including the Buckinghamshire County Museum, The House of Lords, and the National Library of Wales. She also has prints in the Nagasawa Art Park collection and the MI-Lab Print Collection in Japan.
