Although I come from an Arts teaching background, i.e. English/Art/Dance, I am largely self taught in sculptural techniques and now produce mainly ceramic pieces for indoor or outdoor display.
Expressive posture and movement in animal behaviour is my chief aim and I am currently spending more time on the interaction of creatures, whether in aggressive rivalry or more relaxed, bonding relationships.
Fragile sculptures are built on armatures, enabling the making of long legs, thin horns and tails, which are strengthened wherever possible with wire and resins. By pushing paper clay to its limits, the perception of lightness and greater elevation can be achieved without the necessity of a base.
I have exhibited widely and venues have included Pyramid Gallery, York; Nature in Art, Glos. (Artist in Residence and exhibition); Mall Galleries, London (Wildlife Artist of the Year); Art in Action, Waterperry, Oxfordshire and more recently celebrating Celebrating Ceramics also at Waterperry.
Visitors are welcome to visit my home gallery and scultpure garden by appointment.
