I am currently exhibiting my work at the Woburn Mosaic Gallery in Woburn.
I originally studied Printed Textiles and Fashion at Loughborough College of Art, and then chose to work in the textile industry for a number of years. After a break to raise my family, I returned to college to study Fine Art at UCN Northampton.
The Visual Arts have always had a big influence in the way that I perceive the world around me. I hope that this is reflected in the style that I have developed gradually as a painter, printmaker and mixed media artist.
A strong sense of colour and form are evidence of my initial training as a textile designer, and I now work mostly with paint, ink, collage and print to produce bright, fresh images on canvas and paper. Drawing is central to all my work, and I especially value the opportunity to participate in life drawing sessions as well as sketching outdoors.
My inspiration is drawn from my memory of landscape, the sea and walking in the woods where I live. I like to create works both formal and abstract, using a variety of subject matter that ranges from landscape to seascape, figurative and abstract. I support my ideas by the use of drawings and photographs which are used as a visual reminder while the work evolves organically, through the process of laying down paint and texture onto whichever support I choose to use at the time. I am particularly interested in the shapes and patterns that the natural world creates over time, either by the build up of lichen on wood and stone, or the erosion by weather on rocks and land.
I am a member of the Visual Images Group and have taken part in Open Studios for a number of years in both Bucks and Beds.
I have exhibited and sold my work widely, and am currently represented by the Woburn Mosaic Gallery in Woburn.
