2020 got off to a flying start for the Birchwood Artists; a spring exhibition at Queens Park Arts Centre in Aylesbury and the promise of collaborative working with artists from other artistic disciplines. Textile artist Pam created a felt work inspired by Mark's Bluebell Wood and the Birchwood Painters gained fresh ideas from the Queens Park textile exhibition. Meanwhile, discussions were under way with the all-ability Theatre Shed Chesham. We hope this collaboration will lead to performance works (acting, singing, movement, poetry) inspired by the Birchwood Artists' paintings. And that the exchange of ideas via shared workshops and videos will yield further inspiration to the Birchwood Artists.
Sadly, at present, the Birchwood Painters have suspended their weekly painting sessions because enablers and artists cannot work together safely. We look forward to the day when volunteers are able to visit Birchwood again - so many projects to re engage with. In the meantime, a huge Thank You to the carers and staff at Birchwood for doing their utmost to keep our friends and artists safe.
The Birchwood Painters are a close-knit group of artists and enablers who have been working together for over ten years. The artists live at Birchwood Care Home in Chesham. Through their work, characterised by passion and energy, they express their view of their surroundings and the wider world.
